By fostering equity, creativity, and a deep respect for diverse perspectives, Sunshine Charter School will empower students to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.

Our Core Values:
At Sunshine Charter School, we unlock each student’s unique potential and nurture the skills, mindsets, and values needed to make a positive impact. Our educational model is anchored on five key pillars:

What is a Charter School
A Charter School is a school established to provide students and parents with more choices in the types of educational opportunities and programs that are available within the public school system. The Legislature provides for charter schools through the California Charter Schools Act (1992)

A Legacy of Experience and Vision
Built on a history of educational success, including Sunshine Private School and Sunshine University in Afghanistan.
Sunshine Charter School is guided by a foundation of educational experience and a strong commitment to serving diverse communities. The founder previously established educational institutions in Afghanistan, including Sunshine Private School and Sunshine University, which were recognized for their commitment to academic quality and student development.
These experiences provided valuable insight into the challenges students face, particularly those from multilingual and culturally diverse backgrounds.
After coming to Sacramento, California, the founding team recognized similar educational needs within the local community, especially among students who are English Learners and those from Farsi-Dari and Pashto-speaking backgrounds. These students often face challenges such as language barriers, interrupted education, and limited access to culturally responsive programs.
In response to these needs, the founding team developed the vision for Sunshine Charter School as a new, independent public charter school. The school is designed to provide a high-quality educational program that supports both academic success and language development, while reflecting the cultural and linguistic strengths of the community it serves.
